Winter Comes

Instead of growling at the snow, we are all breathing a sigh of relief! After the hottest summer on record and the worst fire year ever – snow is a welcome safeguard. Chickens are all in the deep freeze and the cattle have moved to their winter home – no that isn’t Florida! The past ten days have been cold and there is a comforting layer of snow everywhere.

This morning, the temperature rose ten degrees, but the ground is still very cold. A steamy  mist lays on top of the earth and rises up off the surface of the river.  The magpies are out at first light and following their noses for a meal. Soon the geese will start lifting off the icy water they sleep in and will fly over, honking and calling. The coffee is ready. No chores to do.

Winter ain’t so bad.
